geeking out about apps

ok. for iphone users i have to share my favorite apps im obsessing over lately.

for the rest of you: get an iphone. it makes life sooooo much easier and more fun.

for example, i visit teach 3 sisters in my congregation at church. they live all over and it is hard to coordinate their numbers, emails and then find maps to their various homes.

BAM: notes to the rescue! i simply type in the info on my notes app and the numbers, addresses and email address are immediately linked. all i have to do is click on the link and it eitheir calls the number, opens a new email or opens a map. EASY PEESY. i have all this at literally the tips of my fingers while we drive around to visit teach.

apps:

1. scriptures app.

for those of you who read LDS scriptures i HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend this app.

i believe its a little pricey now but i am telling you: it is totally worth the money. the LDS church has released an official scriptures app which i have as well, but i am sticking with the lds scriptures app for now because it has features that the other app doesn't offer yet.

since i got my iphone i haven't picked up my hard copy scriptures. i have all scriptures, JST, bible dictionary, every manual, hymns, general conference, proclamation to the world on the family, the living christ, study guides, church magazines and SO MUCH MORE!

you can download even more content than what originally comes with it through the website (which i can conveniently access through my iphone safari). you can even download classic books for free! so while i am reading my scriptures i can conveniently switch to Dante's Inferno should i fell so inclined.

the best thing about this app is that you can highlight, bookmark and tag. i have referenced so many talks, scriptures and quotes rapidly on the spot in church to supplement lessons. it even has a quote section with pre - loaded quotes sorted by topic.

last item: you can upload your own content to the app simply by copying and pasting. that means you can upload all your talks and lessons! i am sooo paperless now. my scripture study has totally gone up since i mastered this app. it makes it so convenient to study whenever you have a minute.

in short: get it. like, now.

2. food and exercise apps

i use the nike iphone app to track my workouts by time, distance, calorie burn, etc. it also has a feature to access your music through the app so you don't have to switch back and forth

to track calories, i use a special app that allows me to journal my food and it does all the math for me listing the nutritional value

i use the weight watchers app to get recipe ideas - it lists recipes that you simply scroll through, click on a button, and sha-slam it makes an itemized grocery list for you with check off capabilities. it also details the preparation for the recipe.

another app i use is a food twister that you enter in ingredients, type of dish and type of preparation and it generates possible recipes.

3. kindle app

i didn't want to buy this cause i feel like the ebook store will come out for iphone soon, but im in a book club and have to read the book now. so far i like it except you can't highlight or bookmark. lame. but buying the book was super easy and cheap. one click. and now i can read whenever, wherever i want!

4. operator

i type in a business and information comes up that tells you the number and the quickest way to get through automated promps and to an actual person. click on the number through the app and it automatically calls

5. all my camera apps

holgas, instants, zoom, quad, photobooth, fish eye. so many fun to play with!!

6. blog press

i can blog from anywhere. yeah!

7. istake

ward directories and more on my phone. can call email, or map anyone at the click of my finger. no dialing here!

8. wikipanion

the world at my fingertips

9.aroundme

finds your location and then tells you whats around you in categories: food, gas stations, entertainment, etc.

has helped sam and i find many a location easily and quickly.

10. flixter

movies made easy. trailers, upcoming dvds, your theaters, ratings, rotten tomatoes

11. games

obsessed with trivial pursuit right now.

there.....i've let it all out.
