my whole life if anyone asked me what time period i would live in if i could live in any i have always said the roaring twenties. the 1920's fascinate and inspire me. the historical aspect, the new horizons and advances socially and all that was going on. it is esspecially fascinating when you juxtapose that with the fact that they were between WWI and the Depression.
mr. whitaker and i rented the great gatsby (robert redford, mia farrow version) and just drank it in. such a good movie - of course even a better book. (one of the most important pieces of american literature ever)
we loved the story and the great acting (with the exception of daisy's husband who stunk big time)
but one of the parts of the movie i loved the very very most was the fashion!! during one of the party scenes sam turned to me and said - are you dying with these clothes right now? and. i. was. the beautiful dresses, the bead work, the caps, the hats, the necklaces, head dresses, earrings and THE FEATHERS!!
luckily, we have fashion right now that hails back to this time. too much stuff to detail where i found everything but i found a lot of stuff at urban outfitters, etsy and fashion blogs.

I totally love that book too. I read it in my 12th grade honors english class and it changed my life!! I need to rent that movie..I'm sure it's a great depiction of the movie. The 20's is totally your era girl. Mine, the 80's hahaha
ReplyDeleteThe twenties and the fourties would have been my choice of time periods. I wear a lot of feather headbands and clips and the 90 year olds in my ward die over them. They tell me about the time they used to wear stuff like that. It really cracks me up.
